The University of Georgia Student Historic Preservation Organization is honored to be hosting the 4th Annual Preservation South Conference. Preservation South is a student-run conference created to give historic preservation students and students in related fields an opportunity to present and learn from the research of their peers. The UTSA Graduate Certificate in Historic Preservation profiles Laura Carrera

UTSA alum, Laura Carrera, practices preservation in New York City these days. Graduating in 2011 with a Masters in Architecture and Certificate in Historic Preservation, she has added New York to her cache of preservation causes, working at the firm of Beyer Blinder Belle. Her passion for preservation began early, while growing up in Nicaragua amid a landscape still devastated by a disastrous earthquake. She became interested in history when her family moved to Spain and in the last year of her undergraduate studies at UTSA, she discovered the field of historic preservation in a seminar with William Dupont.

Urban Renaissance Luncheon featuring preservation economist Don Rypkema

On Wednesday, February 18 Centro San Antonio & the City of San Antonio’s Office of Historic Preservation will be hosting the first of a series of events with the Urban Renaissance Luncheon featuring preservation economist Don Rypkema. The luncheon will include a presentation of Rypkema’s “”Historic Preservation in the Life & the Economy of San Antonio” report. Later that evening the Office of Historic Preservation will host Evening with Don Rypkema at the Milam Building Penthouse at 115 E. Travis. This event is free and open to the public. Please see the attachment for details.

The Association for Preservation Technology International is calling for paper presentations and APT Student Scholar applications are now being accepted online.

Conference submissions are due February 22; Student Scholar submissions are due March 31.

NPS Summer Internship

The NPS Climate Change Response Program and the University of Washington are pleased to announce paid summer internship positions related to climate change in national parks. Eligible students are highly accomplished graduate students and upper-level undergraduates (juniors and seniors). Interns must be US citizens or nationals, and be enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program.

Twelve positions are offered in parks and program offices around the country for the summer of 2015. Applications will be accepted until late January.
